Panaji: Nearly 24-hours after we broke the news of five Congress MLAs walking towards BJP side, the opposition have claimed that not they but three MLAs from the saffron party have approached them.

We had broke the news about five of Congress MLAs including former Chief Minister Digamber Kamat, Pratapsingh Rane, Dayanand Sopte, Subhash Shirodkar and Francis Silveria likely to join BJP post Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s return to State.

However, speaking to reporters, Sopte rubbished the news and claimed that three legislators from the ruling side have approached them.

“The news about we congress MLA going to BJP was known to me through newspapers today. No one has approached me nor have I approached anyone. These are all baseless rumors spread by BJP, who itself is on verge of split,” the Mandrem MLA said.

Sopte claimed that ‘in fact three of their MLAs have already approached us and there is possibility of joining the party’.

“Considering the current political situation, wherein minus those in USA and Mumbai, everyone knows the total strength of the ruling coalition. If you see the number, Congress has 16 today and if three from their side join, we are 19, thus further reducing ruling numbers,” he stated.

“I politics anything can happen,” MLA added.
