Panaji: All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary K. C. Venugopal on Wednesday said that if like-minded parties are sincere about defeating the BJP, the Congress is open to a grand opposition alliance for the upcoming Goa Assembly elections.
Venugopal arrived at Dabolim Airport on Wednesday to participate in the Congress’ Goy Rakhonn Yatra (Save Goa March), a 27-day-long initiative that began on Tuesday.
He was welcomed by AICC Goa Desk In-charge Manikrao Thakare, AICC Goa Co-In-charge Dr. Anjali Nimbalkar, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar, Member of Parliament Capt. Viriato Fernandes, and other party leaders.
When asked about a grand opposition alliance, Venugopal said, “If all the like-minded parties are sincere about defeating the BJP, then certainly, we are open to a grand alliance of like-minded parties.”
The Congress in Goa has already announced an alliance with the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP), a regional political outfit, for the upcoming Goa Assembly elections.
The Goa Forward Party (GFP), which was an alliance partner of the Congress, has joined hands with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to form the ‘Goa First’ Alliance.
