Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday claimed that Congress party was not serious about Goa as far as upcoming Lok Sabha elections are concerned.

Sawant told reporters that BJP was serious about both the Lok Sabha seats and hence had leaders like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others including Nitin Gadkari, Suresh Prabhu and Devendra Fadanavis campaigning for the candidates.

The Chief Minister was addressing press conference of NDA along with coalition partners including State Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte (Independent), State Art and Culture Minister Govind Gawade (Independent) and State Ports Minister Jayesh Salgaonkar (Goa Forward Party).

“Congress is not serious about Goa as far as elections are concerned. From the time elections are announced till date, Congress did not had any of their national leader coming to Goa,” Sawant said.

“Forget about national leaders, their own MLAs are not with the official candidate,” he added.

BJP has fielded both its sitting MPs – Shripad Naik (North Goa) and Narendra Sawaikar (South Goa) –while Congress State President Girish Chodankar is contesting in North Goa and its former MP Francis Sardinha is in South Goa.

Taking dig at Congress, Sawant said that Rahul Gandhi led party which ruled the country for seventy years is now talking about “Nyay” and “Swabhimaan.”

“When Congress was in power it never spoke about Nyay. Now after watching five year long rule of Narendra Modi, they have started talking about Swabhimaan,” he commented.

The Chief Minister said that Congress during its tenure never managed to get the fund for the State, while Modi-led government has provided financial muscles to every sector in last five years.
