Panaji:  Congress party in Goa on Wednesday held a silent protest at Azad Maidan in support of their national leader Rahul Gandhi.

Several Congress leaders tied their mouths with black ribbons as they sat for a protest at historic Azad Maidan in the capital city on Wednesday.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Amit Patkar led the protest, which was labeled as “maun satyagraha.” He said that the Satyagraha was a mark of protest against the injustice committed to their leader Rahul Gandhi by BJP-led government at centre.

Referring to the local Pramod Sawant-led government, Patkar said that this government has been reduced to an event management government bereft of any governance. “The only thing they know to do well is to target the opposition,” Patkar told reporters at the sidelines of the Satyagraha.

He said that the opposition has decided to expose the government on every front. “The Congress MLAs will be exposing the government on the floor of the House during the upcoming Assembly session,” Patkar added.

Congress’ Goa MLA Carlose Alvares Ferreira said that the BJP government was afraid of Rahul Gandhi. “If they are not afraid of him, then, why are they chasing him? Why are they troubling him?,” he questioned.
