Panaji: India’s  Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu and All India Congress Committee President  Rahul Gandhi were amongst those who paid tributes to late Shantaram Naik.

“I convey my heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of Shri Shantaram Naik, former Member of Parliament from Goa and former Goa Congress President. He was one of the most active MPs and made good contribution to parliamentary debates. I pray for his eternal peace,” Naidu said in a tweet today.

“I am sorry to hear about the passing away of Shri Shantaram Naik, former Goa Congress Chief, MP and senior congress leader, who played an important role in the battle for Goa’s statehood. My condolences to his family in their time of grief. May his soul rest in peace,” Gandhi tweeted.

Senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted “shocked and saddened by the passing away of Shantaram Naik ji, a pillar of indomitable strenth for Congress party in Goa.”

“In this hour of grief, I express my solidarity with his family, friends and supporters and pray for the departed soul,” he added.
