Panaji:  Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday spoke to the Goans who were working on a cruise ship `Marella Discovery’ and have been currently disembarked in Mumbai.

“Late last evening, I spoke to the Goan Seafarers telephonically who signed off from Marella at Mumbai Port. They will be back home very soon,” Sawant tweeted on Saturday.

Meanwhile, State Executive Committee headed by Chief Secretary on Friday resolved that these crew members working on the ship would be tested in Mumbai.

“After testing negative, these crew members working on a ship would come to Goa and would be housed in the paid Quarantine facilities,” reads the minutes of meeting of SEC.

It was decided to negotiate the room rentals with food from a couple of hotels for their quarantine, in coordination with both the district Collectors.

The SEC observed that the negotiated prices be shared with the employer company, who would be free to further negotiate or get a better deal in any other suitable hotel.

As per Cabinet decision, the employer company has to pay for these quarantine facilities.

  1. SIR,
SOP was thrown to the winds when these seafarers disembarked from the vessel.
Besides the inhuman treatment metted out to these seaman at Mumbai hotel unfit for habitation and with rioters in contact with them, has surely demoralized the seaman.
Their fight for survival stems from the fact that migrants arriving on boats illegally have been quarantined in Margao Residency hotel.
Just recently I have seen how the Association is using a pregnant woman to highlight the issue.
No doubt about the fact that your Government has been doing the most to get back all seafarers, you can’t be partial with only seaman.
There are other Indians stranded round the globe.
OCI should be quarantined and decided as per their country of registration, and your government has to cooperate.
