Panaji: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday held the meeting of its Core Committee but they claimed that the discussions were surrounding upcoming elections.

The State Election Committee which met at party head office in Panaji finalized one name each for North and South Goa Parliamentary seat, stated BJP MLA and Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly Pramod Sawant.

He said that both the names would be sent to Delhi from where the final announcement would be made.

While Sawant refused to divulge the names, BJP Goa Unit President Vinay Tendulkar in the past had told a press conference that sitting MPs Shripad Naik (North Goa) and Narendra Sawaikar (South Goa) would be renominated from their respective constituencies.

The meeting of BJP attained significance considering the prevailing political situation in the State.

BJP Goa State General Secretary Sadanand Tanavade, however, said that there was no discussion on leadership change during the meeting.

“This was purely a meeting to shortlist candidates for Lok Sabha election,” he said.
