Margao: An awareness and sensitizing program was held for the entire Police force, including Women & Child Protection Unit /AHTU Police, Margao Town and Maina Curtorim Police Station, Fatorda Police Station on 13/03/2021, at their conference hall. The focus was knowledge of the POCSO Act 2012 in totality and SOPs related to the Act.
Guest of Honour and keynote speaker was Judge Shubhada Dalvi, Secretary DLSC South Goa and PSI Nahinanda Tavares, PFO present on the dais were introduced to all.
Judge Dalvi spoke on the appropriate skills needed by the Police/ Investigation Officers, while dealing with child victims; the 4 stages of crimes related to POCSO Act 2012, the sensitivity and sharpness to the quickness in pre-empting injustice being done, ensuring through investigations and leaving no scope for doubt, etc. Reference given to the Supreme Court Standing Orders for SOPs laid down for police force in such matters.
The presence of the OSC South Goa and their role with any crime/violence against women and girls, minor and adult were mentioned; the support and assistance to any victim approaching them highlighted. The team also acknowledged the response and cooperation received from the Police and the Women & Child Protection Unit /AHTU Police for a long time. Flyers distributed for additional awareness.
Similar programs have also been planned for other Police Force in South Goa.
