Panaji: Several people from Assam who have been working in Goa held peaceful protest against Citizenship Amendment Act in Panaji on Saturday.
The protests were held under the banner of Assam Society of Goa, which comprises of the people originally hailing from Assam but  have settled and working here.
The protests were held at historic Azad Maidan in Panaji on Saturday morning.
Assam Society of Goa’s Spokesman Deepak Kalita said that the protest was to demand scrapping of CAA,which has met with strong opposition from across the country.
He said that the central government should focus on providing basics, like food, jobs and good roads, instead of allowing people from Bangladesh into Assam in the name of religious persecution.
“The protests are held in Goa to indicate how much angst is amongst the people against CAA,” he said.
Kalita said that the issue is not about particular religion but identity of Assam which is under threat due to more foreigners fearing to enter the North Eastern state.
