Action taken on tobacco sellers/vendors by Mapusa, Anjuna and Colvale police.

Panaji: Mapusa Sub Division has initiated necessary action against the shop owners/vendors who are selling tobacco products in their shops and has booked various offences.

As per SDPO Mapusa Jivba Dalvi Mapusa Police station registered one crime u/s 87 F of Goa Daman and Diu Public health Act, Sec 24 of COTPA Act 2003 against mr. Samsuddin Zamir Shaikh, r/o Pinto Vada Verla canca Bardez Goa for selling tobacco products at near Govt. primary School Namushe Girim, Bardez Goa. Further Anjuna Police registered a crime against Ibrahim s/o Azimulla, r/o Arpora, bardez Goa, N/o Madhya Pradesh for illegally storing, selling tobacco products and seized cigarette worth Rs. 40,000/- from above persons.

Colvale Police station have registered two crimes u/s 87 F of Goa Daman and Diu Public health Act, Sec 24 of COTPA Act 2003 against Arun Kumar s/o Suresh Devar, r/o Sai Colony Madel Bardez Goa for illegally storing contraband tobacco products worth of Rs3000/- at Ganesh general store Sai Colony, Madel, Thivim, Bardez Goa and another crime against Ram Raj Nisad, s/I Sayaram Nisad, r/o Sirsaim Bardez N/o Alahabad Uttar Pradesh illegally storing contraband tobacco products worth of Rs. 1380/- in his shop at near Mahalaxmi Temple, Sirsaim.

SDPO Dalvi further stated that Mapusa Sub Division has also booked total 1045 COTPA Cases against the violators for the year 2023 i.e. from 01.01.2023 to 19.07.2023 and has collected an amount of Rs 2,09,000/- towards fine.

All the accused persons were arrested and further released on surety.

SDPO Dalvi further added that the strict action will be continued in future under supervision of SP north Nidhin Valsan.
