Panaji: Goa Police on Tuesday filed a case against Abu Farhan Azmi, son of Maharashtra-based Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi, along with others, for fighting in a public place, disturbing peace, and causing affray at Candolim village in North Goa.

Calangute Police Inspector Paresh Naik said that the case has been filed against Abu Farhan Azmi and others under Section 194 of the BNSS, 2023, for fighting in a public place, disturbing public peace, and causing affray.

Abu Farhan Azmi is the husband of actor Ayesha Takia. Others, including Zeon Fernandes, Joseph Fernandes, and one Sham, were also booked under the same section by Calangute Police, he said.

As per a media statement released by the police department, at 11:12 PM on March 3, the police control room received a call informing them that a fight was taking place at Candolim.

During the fight, Azmi reportedly told the rival group that he had a licensed firearm with him, which he was carrying.

When police arrived at the scene, they were informed that a scuffle had taken place between two groups, including Azmi’s, over a petty matter.

Police later brought both groups to the police station and gave them an opportunity to file complaints against each other, which they refused.

“As per protocol, they were sent for a medical examination at the District Hospital in Mapusa, where they refused to get medically examined,” he said.

Police said that Abu Farhan Azmi produced a valid arms licence issued by the concerned authority, along with a permit to carry it in Goa.

The statements of all the accused were recorded by Calangute Police on Tuesday morning.
