Margao: Goa police on Thursday arrested a 23-year-old man for kidnappning and raping a 13-year-old school going girl in South Goa.
Superintendent of Police (South) Arvind Gawas said that Melwyn Anthony Fernandes has been arrested for raping a minor girl, who was his known to him.
“The accused offered lift to the girl under the pretext of dropping her home when she was returning from the school and then raped her in the forests of Quepem village in South Goa on Wednesday,” he said.
Maina-Curtorim police station had registered an offence of kidnapping and rape when girl narrated the incident to her family.
A senior police officer said that the girl was brought to Hospicio Hospital, a state-run district hospital with injuries on her body, when she narrated the incident again to the police.
The accused has been booked under stringent POCSO Act, Goa Children’s Act and other related sections of Indian Penal Code for kidnapping and raping a minor girl.
