Wild animal menace: Saleli villagers plant fruit bearing trees on the border Devendra Gaonkar

Sattari :With the Government expediting the process to declare wild boars as vermin, Sattari residents also want monkeys to be added to the list.

On Wednesday, Saleli villagers planted fruits bearing saplings on the slope of the mountain on the border of the village to stop the wild animals from entering the fields.

Locals complaint that the wild boar, bison and monkey menace has destroyed their  crops in large numbers. The plantations of Coconut, Banana, Arecabut and others have been adversely affected.

Herd of monkeys enter the field and destroy coconut and banana plantations because of which, I face huge loses, a villager said.

“I have tried by best to control the menace, but failed. So, now we all villagers have thought to plant the fruits bearing saplings on village mountain area,” he said.

The villagers planted the saplings of Jackfruits, Mango, pineapple, lemon and many others saplings like jambul and Bhirand.  Planting the fruits bearing saplings on village mounatin area will stop the wild animals from entering in our fields said a villager.
