Mandrem: Former Sarpanch of Mandrem and current panch Mahesh Konadkar was brutally attacked by five masked persons last night.
The injured was shifted to Tuem health centre where hundreds of people had gathered demanding action against the assailants.
The incident took political turn as Konadkar told reporters from the hospital bed that assailants uttered “Michael Jai tuka” (You want Michael) while assaulting him.
Calangute MLA Michael Lobo had recently started taking interest in Mandrem assembly constituency against sitting MLA Jit Arolkar.
After hearing about the incident, Lobo met CM Dr Pramod Sawant demanding inquiry into the incident.
Talking to GNH, Lobo said “I condemn the attack. We are MLAs of Goa, constituency may be different but that does not we will keep quiet, the attack is condemnable.”
“It is very dangerous. I am visiting him in the hospital now. Police should conduct thorough investigation to find out who were the culprits and why they attacked him,” he said.
Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar said that the detailed inquiry should be conducted in the assault as “Konadkar had recently supported him in the panchayat.”
“Someone may have tried to take disadvantage of the situation,” he said.
