Panaji: As an outcome of constant follow up by Health minister Vishwajit Rane, Medical Council of India has approved the conversion of 19 diploma seats in Goa Medical College into corresponding degree seats, thus resulting in increase of seats for Goa.
The conversion would be implemented for the seats from the year 2020-21.
In a letter to Secretary General Dr Rakesh Rao Vats, the Board of Governors of Medical Council of India stated that the permission to convert diploma to degree seats are subject to affiliation of additional PG degree seats by the concerned university.
This is a major development which has happened after follow up by Rane, Secretary Health and Dean of Goa Medical College which has managed to convince the Indian Medical Council.
In the past, due to alleged lapses by former Dean Dr Pradip Naik, Goa had lost several seats which was a great loss to the students.
Rane has thanked Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr Harsh Vardhan for having done this conversions which will help students of Goa and GMC.
