Vasco: Mormugao Municipal Council added four new Compactor vehicles to the garbage-collection fleet of vehicles, seeking to boost its cleanliness drive under the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’.
The compactors were launched jointly at the hands of Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, MP South Goa Narendra Savoikar, Aldona MLA Glenn Ticklo, Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral and others after Thanks giving mass offered by Almeida’s family at St Andews Church on Thursday. Over one thousand people including several leaders of state legislative assembly attended the Thanks giving mass.
Almeida officially resumed his work after taking treatment for his sudden illness.
Speaking to reporters Almeida assured that he would provide all possible support to the Mormugao municipality so that MMC maintain its number one ranking of cleanest municipality in state. He also complemented MMC for taking serious efforts due to which Vasco did not witnessed any flood like Situation during current monsoon.
MMC Chairpeson Deepak Naik said that MMC is committed to make Vasco cleaner and better and these new trucks would be very beneficial for that. He said that due to efforts taken by Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, MMC got ten new vehicles. Naik said that since last several years MMC had to depend on vehicles which were not only old but some of them were even 18 year old. During any garbage vehicle breakdown MMC had to face severe inconvenience as garbage from the entire area could not be cleared. These new vehicles will now solve garbage issues, he said.
