Panaji: Goa Police on Thursday arrested two women primary teachers for beating a nine-year-old student.
Incidentally, the arrest happened when the country is celebrating the Teachers’ Day.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Mapusa) Sandesh Chodankar said that two women teachers — Sujal Gawade and Kanishka Gadekar — were arrested after the parents of the child filed a formal complaint with the Colvale police station.
The teachers are booked under the BNS, section 82 of the Juvenile Justice Act, and Section 8 (1) of the Goa Children’s Act.
The incident happened earlier this week when the student, who was studying in fourth standard at Shree Saraswati Vidya Mandir Primary School, Vagali-Camurlim, was allegedly assaulted by the teachers.
The student is currently admitted in the hospital with injuries on his thighs, legs and back, he said.
As per the complaint, both the teachers allegedly assaulted the child for tearing a page from the text book.
