Panaji: Union minister of state for Civil Aviation V K Singh on Tuesday said that existing Dabolim Airport and new Mopa Airport will be functional in Goa simultaneously.
Addressing a press conference in Panaji, Singh said that Both airports — Dabolim and Mopa— will be functional in Goa and traffic management on these Airports would be done in a way that no one faces the losses.
He was speaking to reporters in presence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and state Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte.
Singh said that neither of the Airport management can take any decision on their own.
While existing Dabolim Airport is managed by Indian Navy, Private firm GMR will be operating the Mopa Airport.
“Both the airports are government properties. And the central government’s intentions are very clear that both the airports will function simultaneously,” he said.
He said that both domestic and international flights will continue arriving at both the airports.
“If you want to see growth in tourism sector we require to have better connectivity,” Singh said.
When asked about commissioning of Mopa Airport, Singh said Goa chief minister Pramod sawant has already written to the prime minister about the date for inauguration of Mopa Airport. The date for the inauguration will be fixed soon, he added.
