Panaji: Coming down heavily on alleged illegal hiring of vehicles to the tourists along coastal belt, the Transport department has seized nearly 50 vehicles while suspending the registration of 15 two-wheelers and six cars for a period of four months.
The action is been initiated during the month long drive against illegal hiring of vehicles to tourists.
The action is been undertaken under section 50 of Motor Vehicles Act. As per the Act the vehicles used illegally for commercial purposes are liable for suspension of registration during which period the vehicles cannot be driven on public roads.
Transport Director Nikhil Desai said that action and drive against all violators will be expedited in coming days especially during weekends.
