Panaji: Coming down heavily on the private cars operating illegal rent-a-cab business, transport department has suspended registration of 150 such cars.
Director Transport Nikhil Desai today informed reporters that department has so far granted 2000 licenses for rent-a-cab business in the State.
“On regular basis we are receiving applications and the same would be placed before State Transport Authority meeting for decision,” he said after some rent-a-cab association members urged him with a demand to put cap of 2500 on rent a cab licenses.
Desai informed that so far department has suspended registration of 150 private cars for renting it out illegally. “This is for the first time such major step is taken. Our action will continue,” he said.
The rent-a-cab association members informed Director that some private cars are indulge in renting their cars illegally at the international Airport Dabolim.
Director has assured necessary action.
