Panaji : All Goa Private Bus Owners Association, General Secretary Sudip Tamhankar along with Private Taxi Operators  submitted a memorandum to the Transport department regarding alleged illegalities in Taxi Digital fare meter.

Present for the press briefing today were Taxi operator leader Bappa Korgaokar, Sudip Tamhankar and other taxi operators.
Tamhankar alleged that, “A petition was filed in court alleging that taxi operators are overcharging, but transport department without verifying this fact asserted that they would mandate taxi operators to put fare meters”,
” Subsequently Rule 140 was amended to further the cause of taxi meters but the rule does not speak about those taxis which come to Goa from other states, do they have to install meters ? Goan taxi operators who have been told to install meters are likely to incur loss as this rule is not applied to taxis coming from neighbouring states,” he said.
Tamhankar said ,Government has appointed only one vendor instead of appointing 5-6 vendors, and taxi operators are forced to buy meters from this sole vendor. This is unacceptable to us.
He has demanded that the  transport minister should mandate taxis coming from outside Goa to install meters.
