Panaji: Vasco police on Sunday arrested social activist and founder of Savera NGO Tara Kerkar in connection with the kidnapping of a minor child.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Raju Raut Desai said that Kerkar has been arrested after mother of a minor child complained against her of kidnapping her son.
Desai said that the case of kidnapping has been registered against Kerkar, and she has also been booked under Goa Children’s Act.
As per the complaint filed with Vasco police, the mother claimed that she was living at Kerkar’s house as she has been a ‘helpless woman.’
She said that Kerkar has been forcing her to sell her child, which she had refused.
On Saturday, Kerkar locked the mother and took the child and sold it to unknown person.
The complaint also mentions that Kerkar asked the mother to leave the house.
The mother later approached NGO led by Auda Viegas in Margao, who later filed police complaint.
Police said that the child has been recovered. The investigation is on in the case.
