Panaji: Police have arrested a 46-year-old man for raping his minor step-daughter in the month of January due to which she is currently five month pregnant.

Women’s Police Station in Panaji arrested the accused on Saturday after a NGO lodged complaint against him. The victim is a 15 year old and has been born out of the first marriage to the mother, Police Inspector Sudiksha Naik told reporters.

As per the complaint, the incident happened in January this year when the girl was raped by step father taking advantage that no one was at home. The girl had maintained silence over the incident all this time, but had to speak out when she was found five months pregnant, she said.

The accused has been charged under various provisions of 376-2 of Indian Penal Code (rape) and section 8 (2) of Goa Children’s Act and Section 4 of POSCO Act.
