Panaji: Indian Medical Association (IMA) has suggested to the government to start a 250 bedded COVID hospital block at Goa Medical College and Hospital while converting ESI hospital into covidcare centre with oxygen facility.
IMA President Dr S Samuel has said that government must seriously think of starting a 250 bedded COVID hospital block at GMC itself.
“It will help in good management logistically as well as there will not be split in workforce which is extremely important in this time when there is scarcity of experts,” he said.
“ESI can be converted into covid care centre which oxygen facilities which will admit patients with moderate symptoms and comorbidities which will be managed by MBBS doctors under health services,” Samuel added.
The IMA has said that for Asymptomatic or mild symptoms we can manage with home isolation with IMA doctors support on telephone calls or at primary COVID care centre managed by nursing staff .
Meanwhile, IMA has said that they appreciate that government has finally, at least partially Acceded to our demand and formed a committee including private doctors for the formation of treatment protocols.
“We still would like government to form a comitee of doctors which has private doctors to guide the government on overall issue of control of COVID 19,and also to form a committee for Research purpose,” he said.
IMA SUPPORTS DR IRA ALMEIDA
IMA GOA state salutes the great work done by Dr Ira Almeida who is a IMA member from Margao branch .
Dr Ira has been tirelessly working with the COVID 19 issue since the very beginning and has built ESI COVID hospital from a scratch by utilising all her skills n managing depleted nurses and multitasking staff at her disposal.
It is because of her efforts as head of the entire team that we could have a hospital with ventilators and high flow oxygen ITU in ESI hospital.
The personal sacrifices made by her while carrying out this herculian task cannot go underestimated .
It gives us immense pride that our very own ima member has achieved so much for the state of Goa.
IMA Goa State is sadden by the sudden decision of the government to remove Dr Ira and replace her at such times of crises..
We believe that her efforts require greater appreciation as and we
Feel she should be reinstated immediately or should be posted in such a position that she will be helpful to the government in this crises with her immense experience.
IMA Goa state is also extremely concerned about the increasing deaths occurring in ESI hospital.
We feel that non Availability of senior experts in different super speciality so also non availability of investigations like CT scan , MRI scans at ESI is a major factor.
