Panaji: Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly Rajesh Patnekar on Wednesday reprimanded the Opposition Benches for carrying placards on the floor of the House during Address of Governor B S Koshyari on Monday.

When Session began on Wednesday, the Speaker made an announcement under Breach of Privilege of the House.

Patnekar pointed out that the Opposition Benches had displayed placards after the Address of Governor to the House on Monday.

“When Governor is present in the house the members should pay due respect to him,” he said. Referring to the placards, the Speaker said “before bringing foreign objects in the House, prior permission should be sought from the Speaker.”

Patnekar said “this is serious breach of privilege.”

While putting the Opposition members on notice, the Speaker said that such behaviour will not be tolerated.

The Opposition Benches on Monday had protested against the curtailed, five-day-long, Assembly session.

Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat-led Congress members, Goa Forward Party MLA Vijai Sardesai led members, MGP MLA Sudin Dhavalikar and Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte had protested on the floor.
