Bicholim: The fear has been expressed of several villages on Goa-Maharashtra getting inundated as Dhamne and Kodali dams near Sawantwadi is showing the signs of crumbling.
Bicholim Congress Block President Meghashyam Raut has highlighted this issue, demanding immediate attention of Goa government towards the imminent danger lurking on the coastal state.
He said that the cracks are visible for Dhamne and Kodali dams which can crumble at any given time due to which several villages downstream in Goa including Dodamarg in Maharashtra will go under water.
Raut said that Maharashtra’s Water Resources Department which is supposed to manage this reservoir has totally neglected it. “Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant should take up this matter with Maharashtra counterpart to ensure that the villages don’t face inundation,” he said.
Raut said that the dams require immediate repairs as at several places, it has already started cracking.
