Panaji: Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte on Wednesday demanded immediate re-sealing of the state borders amidst the fear of COVID-19 infection spreading further in the state.

Khaunte said that the State government needs to identify the corona hotspots and contaminated zones in the State, which needs to be isolated.

He also accused Chief Minister Pramod Sawant of attempting to downplay the entire spread of virus claiming it to be “local transmission,” while in reality it is a “community transmission.”

The Porvorim MLA said that the wrong policies of the chief minister and his habit of aping the SOPs of the centre has pushed the state to this stage, where we have travelled from Green Zone to Red Zone.

He said that there should be total lockdown of Vasco city as Mangor Hill has already started showing up tremendous number of cases.

The former Revenue Minister also pointed out that the areas like Varunapuri which are residential locations for the people working in defence forces are close to Mangor Hill, and infection can spread out even there.

He said that if infection spreads to Defence forces, than the situation, would be more disastrous.

Khaunte alleged that CM was trying to play political upmanship with Health Minister Vishwajit Rane by demeaning him for his demand of capping the number of people entering the state.

He said that the state is currently suffering due to stubborn behaviour of the chief minister who disrespected suggestions by the opposition.

Khaunte said that while Goans who return from abroad are made to pay through their nose for quarantine facilities, the non-Goans are just allowed to walk in the state with mere one test of infection.

Pointing out to the insulted meted out to the Goans who arrived in a flight from Dubai, Khaunte said that CM had no time to listen to the Goans while he is busy entertaining non-Goans in the state.

The MLA said that the State government should start working meticulously to handle this virus which has already started affecting our community.
