Sanguem: TMC leader Rakhi Prabhudesai Naik has said that the state government should not bulldoze the IIT Goa complex on the peaceful people of Sanguem and create rift between them.
She said that the State government should take everyone into confidence about the kind of benefits that Sanguem taluka will get once this campus becomes operational.
People of Sanguem should be heard as they have say over their land, she said adding that preferably, the farmland or cultivable land should not be acquired for this project.
The families which are dependent on the farms should not be made to suffer because of this complex.
She said that certain politicians in the area are hell bend to bulldoze this project. “We don’t want Sattari episode to repeat in Sanguem,” Naik said.
She stated that the state government has to understand that there are ample lands available in the state where this project can be taken, without forcing them on the people of Sanguem.
The people also want to the job opportunities that would be created with the project and what kind of jobs that would be available for the locals.
She said that the incident of violence between two groups on Sunday could have been avoided, if there was no political interference.
“People of Sanguem believe in living in harmony. We should not tolerate anyone trying to create unnecessary rift,” she said.
Naik said that she would be soon writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai seeking their intervention over the matter.
