Porvorim: Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte has supported free quarantine for the Seafarers, advising the government to use the fund for National Disaster coffers for taking care of their stay.
Khaunte said that the seafarers have returned to the state after traumatic experience. He said that the state government should make effort to bring back, all the Seafarers back to the state.
He objected to the decision of the government to charge the seafarers for the quarantine facility, claiming that once they sign off the ship, the responsibility of the company gets over.
Khaunte said that the state government should pay from the coffers of National Disaster management funds for their quarantine, rather than billing them.
He also demanded that the state government should expedite the process of bringing back the Goans who are stranded in various parts of the globe.
Khaunte said that if required, the state can charter a flight to get them back.
The Porvorim MLA alleged that few officers in the bureaucracy has managed to get their relatives back in Goa, while many Goans are still stranded across the border.
