Panaji: Oxygen levels at Goa Medical College and Hospital have got streamlined since last night after commissioning of the tank near the facility, State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said on Sunday.

The deaths of COVID-19 patients at this facility during the dark hours of 2 am to 6 am had caused concerns. Goa Bench of Bombay  High Court had issued directions to the government ordering it to solve the issue of Oxygen supply.

Goa government had commissioned 20,000 kilo litres capacity Oxygen tank at GMCH on Saturday.

As per the official figures, during last five days (till Saturday morning) 83 people had died during the dark hours. The figures of wee hours of Sunday were not available till filing of this report.

Rane told PTI on Sunday morning that the oxygen levels are getting streamlined at GMCH after commissioning of the tank.

“Now, we should not be having problems regarding the Oxygen supply. The commissioning of the tank is a major step towards solving this problem,” the Health Minister said.

On Saturday, addressing a press conference, GMCH Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar had said that it is not right to attribute all the deaths during 2 am till 6 am at GMCH, due to lack of Oxygen.

“There can be several reasons,” he had said pointing out that the deaths of COVID-19 patients were happening round the clock in the state run hospital.

  1. Oxygen and Vaccine, Where are you? I am coming from the Center. Why so much delay? Why it was not sent, when first phase was over? Because of this delayed, now so many people died!
