Panaji: The opposition benches on Tuesday created ruckus on the floor of the House seeking clarification on the incident of the slab collapse of Kala Academy building in Panaji.
The opposition benches rushed to the well of the House when 18-day-long session of monsoon session began on Tuesday. The members including Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, AAP MLA Venzy Viegas, Goa Forward Party MLA Vijai Sardesai and Revolutionary Goans Party MLA Viresh Borkar rushed to the well of the House with placards.
The members were demanding resignation of Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude holding him responsible for the collapse. The Kala Academy building is currently being renovated.
Speaker of Legislative Assembly Ramesh Tawadkar tried to pacify the members asking them to sit on their respective chairs but the situation remained noisy. Sardesai said that the collapse reflects corruption in the system.
As the opposition members continued their protest, the Speaker adjourned the House for half an hour.
When the Session assembled again, Sardesai continued his protest in the well of the House while other members including Alemao participated in the Question Hour.
The issue was also raised during the Zero Hour. Responding to the issue, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant assured the House that “no one would be spared, if they are found to be reason for the collapse.”
He said that the IIT Roorkie has been asked to submit detailed report on the structure and analyse the reason behind the collapse. Sawant said that Principal Chief Engineer of Public Works Department has been asked to submit the preliminary report.
The chief minister assured the House that he would table the report (preliminary and final report) on the floor during ongoing Session, which culminates on August 10.
