Margao: Chairperson of the Margao Municipal Council, Pooja Naik has informed it has been decided to cancel the forthcoming study tour of the councilors of the Margao Municipal Council to Mt. Abu in Rajasthan.

The Chairperson said that upon paying heed to the advice of the Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, she alongwith the councilors supporting her in the Margao Municipal Council have decided to cancel this tour keeping in mind that our councillors should as far as possible avoid the  exercise of going on tours at the cost of the tax payers.

“Even in the past, the Fatorda MLA when a Minister in the cabinet had not used a government vehicle & other perks and has requested our councilors to follow suit and rethink the study tour which was meant to study Development of Green Spaces and Parks under AMRUT Scheme in Mt. Abu in Rajasthan,” she said.

She further said that in Fatorda many open spaces have been developed by Shri Vijai Sardesai and it was felt that there was no need to go to Rajasthan to study a model but we will replicate this model of beautification of open spaces all over the city.

Naik also reminded that as the Chairperson she was not attending this tour with the councilors, so also the Vice Chairperson & most of councillors of Fatorda had not planned to partake in the trip. But since substantial section of the Technical Staff of the MMC were to partake in this tour , the same would paralyze the day to day functioning of the municipality.

She said the Council was conscious to the wrong public perception that would be created as a result of this study tour and the hardships it would cause to the citizens on account of technical & other municipal staff participating in it , leading to their absence from their regular duties thus causing hardships to citizens of Margao and Fatorda. Hence she has decided to cancel the tour .
