VASCO: Slamming the PWD National Highway officials for not taking due care while executing widening ofNH 17 A road connecting Cortalim to Chicalim, Panchayat Minister and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho on Saturday said that the works done by National Highway officials is shoddy.

“It is very shoddy work done by national highways along the Dabolim, Chicalim and Cortalim stretch on NH 17A road.  Now the trees along this road are precariously placed that the other day it resulted in death of one old lady. Even now there are some trees which are precariously hanging,” Godinho said

He further added that ” Inspite of several reminders including two reminders sent through my office, they have not been able to cut the trees. Recently the officials concerned held inspection along with Panchayat officials but there has been no outcome. Till now they have only taken a decision to request private person to cut the trees which according to me will never happen and the danger will continue. Taking this issue very strongly I have again made letters to NH officials telling them that it is their responsibility and they should cut down dangerous trees after obtaining permission from Deputy Collector Mormugao in a days time so that there is no more deaths,” he stated

“It is like disaster waiting to happen and the action taken till now is as good as no action,” he told

It may be recalled that the state PWD NH division spent over Rs 11 crores for widening of NH 17 A road however due to faulty planning this road has become a scary highway for all the commuters with incidents of landslides and uprooting of trees taking place at regular interval
