Panaji: Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat on Sunday said that it is  actually an insult to great Goan Dr. Jack Sequeira if someone tries to sideline rules and regulations and get into an illegal act under the pretext of giving recognition to the great Goan, purely to get a political mileage.

Kamat was speaking as Chief Guest at Dalgado Awards presentation ceremony at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao today.

The  Margao MLA further said that Goa will never forget the immense contribution of Dr.Jack Seqeira to preserve the identity of Goa and his tireless efforts during the historic Opinion Poll. Goans have never and will never oppose recognitions given to Dr. Jack Seqeira or any other prominent Goan who have contributed for Goa. We must ensure that the proposals are approved through proper procedure without violating any laws.

If the Goans bless Congress Party with a clear mandate, We will ensure that Dr. Jack Sequeiras statue is installed at the assembly complex, Kamat assured the gathering.

He complimented Dalgado Konkani Akademi for its noteworthy work to promote literature in Romi Konkani and also recognise contributions of various Goans is social and cultural fields. He said that Dalgado Awards have attained a status now and the receipients of the awards feel proud on being presented with the awards. He assured to continue his support for DKA.

 Kamat made a special mention of senior citizen Elizabeth who was holding the umbrella over all the awardees and said that young generation should learn from him how to respect art and culture. He also sang few lines of “Ami Goemkar” with singer Oluv and praised him for his outstanding singing.

DKA president Tomazinho Cardozo thanked Digambar Kamat for his support and made a special mention of grants started to the Akademy by Digambar Kamat by making budgetary provisions during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Goa.

Digambar Kamat is the one and only Chief Minister who has given maximum support to the Romi Konkani and Tiatr. Remembering the naming of main auditorium of Ravindra Bhavan as Pai Tiatrist Auditorium, Cardzo said that Tiatr and Dalgado fraternity will never forget Kamats help and support. He urged the Leader of Opposition to try and get space from the Government for setting up Library and also urged him to put efforts to get recognition from Sahitya Akademi for Romi Konkani literature.

DKA felicitated Isidore Dantas, RBS Komarpant, Kenneth Zuzarte, Ramanand Raikar, Aurelio Viegas, Soccoro Rebello, Brenda Menezes with Dalgado Awards 2019 presented at the hands of Digambar Kamat.

DKA Vice President Father Conceisao Dailva welcomes the gathering. Sonia Gomes, Aphonso Braganza, Mathew Dcosta, Irene Cardozo, Alvaro Gomes, Vasalho Carvalho and Menino Almeida read the Citations while Vincy Quadros proposed the vote of thanks. Treasurer of DKA Celso Fernandes was also present on the dais.

The function was attended by Dr. Harishchandra Nagvenkar, Premanand Lotlikar, Pandarinath Lotlikar, Father Manuel Gomes, C D Silva, Jessy Dias, Vishal Pai Cacode, Betty Naz and others.
