Industrialist Pallavi Dempo to contest on BJP ticket from South Goa

Panaji: Bharatiya Janata party’s South Goa candidate Pallavi Dempo is the Executive Director of Dempo Industries, a prominent group based out of Goa.

The formal announcement about her name was made in New Delhi on Sunday, which announced the fifth list of the candidates. She became the first ever woman candidate to contest BJP Parliamentary election in Goa.

The seat is currently represented by Congress leader Francisco Sardinha. The BJP had won this seat only twice in the past, in the year 1999 when its candidate Ramakant Angle won and in the year

The 49-year-old Dempo is a Goan Entrepreneur and Educationist. She holds a graduate degree in chemistry from Parvatibai Chowgule College- Margao, Goa and a postgraduate degree in business management (MBA) from MIT, Pune.

She is the Executive Director of Dempo Industries and oversees the business’s Media and Real Estate arm.

Apart from being a Trustee of Dempo Charities Trust, a philanthropic organisation dedicated to helping the socially and educationally underprivileged, it also runs four institutes of pre-university learning in the state of Goa.

She is the wife of renowned industrialist Shrinivas Dempo, who is also President of Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industries (GCCI).

Dempo is also the Patron of Dempo Vishwa Gramshala. The family has adopted government high schools under the Rural School Adoption Programme to provide girls vocational training, which is deemed one of the core skills towards financial empowerment.

She has been appointed President of the Indo-German Educational and Cultural Society, contributing to the cultural enrichment between Germany and Goa.

She is the Trustee of Moda Goa Foundation, a fashion and textile Museum in Goa started by Wendell Rodricks.

She has also served as a member of the Academic Council affiliated with Goa University from 2012 to 2016.

Besides being an active member of various other organisations she is also the member of the Managing Committee of The Goa Cancer Society, she also serves on the core committee of All India Management Association’s Women’s Council- AIMA Aspire.

She plays a significant role in shaping the direction and activities of this council and the organisations stated above. She actively contributes to its programs, events, and initiatives to promote gender diversity and inclusion in management and leadership positions.
