Panaji: Hundreds of mining dependents have staged dharna at Azad maidan demanding immediate resumption of iron ore mining activities in the State, which are under suspension since last three months.

The dependents, under the banner Goa Mining People’s Front (GMPF) will hold day long dharna at Azad maidan.

“As the government had said that the solution for the mining will be worked out latest by June 7, we waited for some action. However, no concrete steps have come from government to restart the mining activities. Hence, we have decided to go ahead with the dharna at Azad maidan,” GMFP said in their press statement issued.

The agitators have threatened to intensify their protest by marching on to State Assembly during the forthcoming monsoon session, if government fails to come out with a concrete solution before that.
