Panaji: Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) on Sunday filed a police complaint against nationally renowned hair designer and two Goa Congress leaders for distortion of the Indian map on the occasion of Independence Day.

HJS Convener Manoj Solanki has filed two different police complaints in South Goa jurisdiction against Javed Habib and Goa Congress leaders Pratima Coutinho and Varad Mardolkar for distortion of Indian map and hurting the national sentiments.

Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee Chief Pratima Coutinho and Goa Pradesh Youth Congress Committee President Varad Mardolkar are named in the complaint which is filed with Maina Curtorim police station in South Goa, while that against Habib is filed at Margao police station, both in the South District.

Solanki has pointed out that all the three – Habib, Coutinho and Mardolkar – had carried Indian map without Kashmir in their greetings circulated on social media on the Independence Day.

“This not in accordance to the official map of India by Government of India. This is clear distortion of the Indian map. I am an Indian citizen and this has hurt my National sentiments and committed a national offence,” the complaint reads.

When contacted, a senior police officer said that the complaint is being investigated and further action would be taken accordingly.

Reacting the complaint, Coutinho said that she has already tendered apology for the error but the complaint was filed to suppress her voice.

“I don’t have to prove my nationality to anyone. I am born Indian and shall die as an Indian,” she said.

“It was just a techno error that led to the wrong map being carried along with greetings,” she said.
