Porvorim – The Summer Tech Fest 2023, the biggest summer festival for kids in Goa, concluded on May 19th, 2023. The event, which commenced on May 17th, witnessed an overwhelming participation of students from across North Goa. Collaboratively organized by the Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, InfoTech Corporation of Goa, and the Startup & IT Promotion Cell Goa, the festival aimed to introduce students to various technologies, including robotics, coding, artificial intelligence, augmented reality, virtual reality, and drone technology.
The festival was inaugurated on May 17th by the Honorable Minister of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Shri Rohan Khaunte, at Salvador do Mundo, Porvorim. During his speech, the Honorable Minister emphasized the importance of early adoption of these technologies to keep pace with the progressive era. He applauded the Department’s initiative in hosting the festival.
The primary objective of the event was to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education among school children, fostering creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. The festival provided hands-on learning opportunities in robotics, coding, and drone technology.
Parents and students wholeheartedly embraced the event. On this occasion, the Director of ITE&C stated that in today’s rapidly evolving digital era, traditional education methods alone are no longer sufficient to equip students with the necessary skills for success. New-age learning techniques leverage the power of technology, innovation, and hands-on experiences to cultivate critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. By embracing these techniques, we can unlock the potential of our students and prepare them to tackle future challenges head-on.
Students were transported to fascinating realms such as space, Jurassic Park, and the cities of Paris and Monaco through the use of augmented reality, making the event truly memorable.
The festival concluded with the distribution of certificates to all the participants. During the concluding function, the Managing Director of ITG highlighted that within the realm of new-age technology lies a tapestry of transformative innovations with the potential to revolutionize entire industries and reshape our society. From the awe-inspiring frontiers of artificial intelligence and robotics to the captivating landscapes of virtual reality, these ground-breaking advancements demand our attention.
