Fatorda: After the recent incident of a vagabond destroying the property outside Holy Spirit Church, Margao, Fatorda police along with the locals from Heritage Ward number 10 have taken a massive drive to clear the beggars from the area.
The massive drive to clear the menace of beggars which created nuisance in our Heritage ward 10, drive was conducted by Fatorda Police in coordination with Holyspirit boys.
The nuisance by beggars had increased in the Old Market area of Margao. The incident of vandalizing of property of Holy Spirit Church came as a trigger for the authorities and locals to act.
“Of late after observing continuous nuisance of begging with the beggars tally increasing day by day at Old Market especially after the Holy Spirit church vandalising incident, our youth decided to take proactive steps in tackling this issue with the help of authorities,” said Alison Morenas, a local and social activist.
“Yesterday I had personally lodged a complaint with the Child line regarding the begging menace growing in our heritage ward especially near church & surrounding spots like signals & Osia complex,” he said .
“Today morning their state team visited personally and we accompanied them to meet up with Police officials,” he said.
PI Kapil Nayak from morning had kept his staff deployed to drive away the beggars at the round about and later in the afternoon in cordination with our Holy Spirit Boys the Police shifted a bus full of beggars and sent them to the designated shelter home.
“More drives will continue henceforth , We will continue to work in coordination with the authorities and help our administration keep a clean and safe surrounding of our Heritage ward,” he said.
These beggars used to stay at unoccupied heritage homes and used to have regular quarrels after consumption of alcohol and also used to damage to people’s Vechicles , many also ran a racket nr Osia.
Alison said “We thank our MLA Vijai Sardesai for his constant support.”
Today too the police have deployed staff to get rid of this beggars menace which was affecting our heritage ward of old market.
“The drive against the begging nuisance at old market , Signals and Holy Spirit church continues by police , this will continue till we resolve this issue, ironically the Govt has SOP but are not helping with Shelter home , the shop keepers have thanks PI Kapil Nayak and his team,” he said.
