Panaji: In a major development, Health department has  replaced Dr Ira Almeida as Medical Superitendent of Hospicio Hospital and also incharge of COVID-19 hospital.

The move comes after  several complaints were received about the condition of COVID-19 hospital. The patients and their relatives had been complaining about the worsening condition of ESI hospital, which has been designated as COVID hospital.

Dr Almeida who was heading this facility has been relieved of the charge asking her to hand over it to Dr Uday Kakodkar, nodal officer of GMC.

The health department has said that Dr Almeida has apparently abandoned everything and no proper handover and transition is taking place.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane in a note moved to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has requested him to issue necessary instructions so that Dr Ira Almeida is directed to do thorough and proper handover so that there is smooth transition and GMC is able to get a total grip on the situation and take things forward.

Rane has asked CM to issue directions through Secretary Health so that necessary action can be taken.

In yet another move, Dr Deepa Correira, senior surgeon has been given charge as MS of Hospicio Hospital, Margao.
