Panaji: Hours after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant chaired a crucial meeting of Goa State Disaster Management Authority, North District Collector Sneha Gitte was issued show cause notice after she failed to invite many relevant officers for the meeting.
Goa State Disaster Management Authority’s Member Secretary Sandeep Jacques on Friday evening issued show cause notice to North Goa District Collector, who is also chairperson of District Disaster Management Authority directing her to show cause why action should not be initiated against her for such a lapse.
She has been asked to submit an explanation within 72 hours of the receipt of this notice.
The crucial meeting of Disaster Management Authority was held at Porvorim, near Panaji on Friday, in the wake of Wayanad tragedy.
The meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has worked out mechanism to ensure that Wayanad like landslide does not occur in Goa, which shares Sahyadri Hill ranges with its neighbouring states.
Jacques in a show cause notice has said “it is observed that due notices have not been delivered to important functionaries involved in disaster management such as Principal Chief Engineer (PWD), Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and few other relevant Heads of the departments.
The notice mentions that it is expedient that as Chairperson of District Disaster Management Authority, North, Gitte ought to have been more cautious in the matter of issuing notices to the relevant officers, as there were many modes of communication including important WhatsApp groups and even telephonically, more importantly as the meeting was conveyed by the Chairman of State Disaster Management Authority, who is chief minister Pramod Sawant.
