Democracy, constitutional mandate prevailed over smear campaign: CM

Panaji: Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday welcomed the decision of Goa Bench of Bombay High Court of dismissing the Disqualification petitions against 12 MLAs commenting that “democracy and constitutional mandate has prevailed over the smear campaign.”

The HC had dismissed two different disqualification petitions filed by Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar and MGP MLA Sudin Dhavalikar against 12 MLAs.

Sawant tweeted “I welcome the decision of Hon. High Court in dismissing the appeal filed by Congress and MGP against merger of 12 MLAs into the BJP Legislature Party. Democracy and constitutional mandate has prevailed over the smear campaign.”

In all 12 MLAs including two from MGP and ten from Congress had switched over the side to BJP in the year 2019. Speaker of Legislative Assembly Rajesh Patnekar had dismissed the disqualification petitions by Chodankar and Dhavalikar, who had challenged the order before the High Court.
