COVID-19 UPDATE: 70 new cases detected, 58 recoveries on Sunday

Panaji: Goa continued to witness spike in COVID-19 cases with 70 people testing positive for the infection on Sunday, while 58 were sent back home after their recovery from the covidcare centres.

State Health department’s bulletin mentions that 70 new people with infection were detected in the state on Sunday.

The number of COVID-19 cases reported in the coastal state touched 1,198 mark with 717 active cases in the state.

Goa has reported three COVID-19 deaths including that of a 76-year-old woman who passed away on Saturday evening.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has already admitted that community transmission has begun in the State with the infection spreading across all the talukas.

Out of 2166 samples that were tested, 1693 were negative  and reports of 403 are awaited.

Mangor Hill, an area in Vasco town, continued to contribute maximum number of positive cases.

As per health department, of the total positive cases detected so far, 258 are from Mangor Hill while 235 are those who got infection related to this place.

Meanwhile, Mangor Hill which has been declared as containment zone after spurt of cases from there, saw protests by locals on Sunday.

Several locals came on the street demanding that restriction on their movement be lifted. They claimed that they were not getting proper food and facilities as they are locked inside the Containment Zone.
