Congress demands complete withdrawal of police force from Shel-Melauli

Panaji: Congress leaders led by Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat and Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) chief demonstrated outside police headquarters in Panaji demanding immediate action against police official involved in ‘atrocities’ and release of all those arrested and refrain from further arrests at Shel-Melauli villagers. Congress leaders, who met DGP on Thursday, also demanded complete withdrawal of police force from Shel-Melauli village.

The Goa Congress on Thursday along with  Mahila Congress president Pratima Coutinho, Indian Youth Congress, Goa president Varad Mardolkar, Swati Kerkar and Karyakarts protested out headquarters.

Adv Pratima Coutinho while addressing the media said, “BJP says Beti bachao beti padhao but ironically they are employing govt. machinery to stomp the lady protesters at Melaulim. The guilty police officer should be suspended.”

“We have submitted a Memorandum to @DGP_Goa  with our demand to give justice to Shel Melavli Villagers, which was accepted in his absence by IGP Rajesh Kumar. We hope better sense will prevail & all will act wisely to avoid Law & Order problem in future,” Kamat wrotes on his official twitter handle.

Earlier, GPCC president had said that the party will launch statewide agitation if govt fails to stop atrocities against people of Goa.
