Panaji: Goa Forward Party Chief Vijai Sardesai on Friday accused Chief Minister Pramod Sawant of supporting pro-merger mentalities, while condemning the iconic figures of Goa who fought to keep the state independent.

Pointing out that councilors of Margao Municipal Council owing their allegiance to BJP and Congress have warned no-confidence motion claiming that no procedure was followed to allow statue of Dr Jack Sequeira at Fatorda, Sardesai claimed that Sawant has been opposing Sequeira’s bust even when he was the Speaker of Legislative Assembly.

He said that when attempt was made to install statue of Dr Jack Sequeira in the legislative assembly, then Speaker Sawant had said that he was custodian of the premises, and would not allow the bust.

“When he is now CM of the state he has also opposed to have it at Fatorda. I am surprised why councilors of Congress and BJP were opposing the statue despite the fact that it is coming up in Fatorda assembly constituency, and all the local councilors were supporting it,” he said.

Sardesai said that the same councilors were also opposing naming of the road between Arlem circle to Ravindra Bhavan after former CM late Manohar Parrikar.

There is also oppose to name the other roads after iconic figures who worked for the welfare of Goa.

Referring to the allegations by Shiv Sena leader from Dodamarg, Baburao Dhuri that Sawant owned properties in that area, Sardesai said that the trend is to have reverse merger.

“They want to merge Sindhudurg into Goa.  I have some evidence which is very substantial basis to make this accusation,” he said.

“If Dodamarg is merged in Goa then the prices of properties will rise,” he said.

Shiv Sena leader says that cm had gone to campaign that time he purchased two properties.

“The sale deed was done on October 24, 2019. Whether they had gone for campaign or to take property is a big question,” he said.

Sardesai alleged that CM owns  an asset of 2966 acres of land in Dodamarg, which is 1.18 crore square metres of land owned in Dodamarg. This is a beginning of a huge conspiracy to destroy Goenkarponn, he added.
