Campaign to create awareness on plasma donation from tomorrow: Vishwajit Rane

Panaji: With two more patients succumbing to the COVID-19 infection between Friday-Saturday, State Health department has announced that they will launch campaign encouraging recovered patients to donate their plasma from Sunday (tomorrow) onwards.

State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday said that the campaign for creating awareness on donation of plasma by the patients who have already recovered from COVID-19 infection will start in the state from Sunday.

“We will be encouraging people to come forward and donate their plasma. They will save lives of other people,” he said.

Rane said that Apheresis machine which is required for the treatment would be installed at state run Goa Medical College and Hospital by Monday (day after).

“We will do whatever, that is required, to save lives of the people,” he said.

Meanwhile, two patients who were undergoing treatment at ESI Hospital in Margao town of South Goa, which is designated as COVID-19 facility, succumbed to the infection on Friday night and Saturday morning respectively, a senior health department official said.

A 80-year-old man and another 31-year-old man died at ESI hospital, taking the death tally to eleven in the state, he said.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the state has touched a mark of 2251 of which  895 are active patients.
