Panaji: Several candidates representing BJP, Congress and AAP on Tuesday filed their nominations for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and by-elections in three assembly constituencies, scheduled on April 23.
Joshua D’Souza, son of former BJP Deputy Chief Minister late Francis D’Souza, filed his nomination on party ticket for by-elections in Mapusa.
The Mapusa assembly seat in North Goa had fallen vacant with demise of than BJP MLA Francis D’Souza on February 14, 2019.
Joshua filed his nomination papers in presence of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, party president Vinay Tendulkar, MLAs and supporters. He is been fielded against Congress’ Sudir Kandolkar, a BJP rebel, who left the party after being denied the ticket.
Further, BJP leader Dayanand Sopte filed his candidature from Mandrem assembly seat, which had fallen vacant with his resignation as Congress MLA in October, 2018. Sopte had then joined BJP.
Also, former BJP Minister Mahadev Naik filed his candidature on Congress ticket from Shiroad Assembly constituency in South Goa.
BJP has fielded Subhash Shirodkar for the by-polls in Shiroda. Shirodkar, too had resigned as Congress MLA and joined BJP last year.
Meanwhile, former Congress MP Francisco Sardinha and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) State Convenor Elvis Gomes also filed their nominations for the South Goa Parliamentary seat on their respective party tickets
