Assembly Session: Opposition protests with hoardings in the House

Porvorim: The Opposition Benches on Monday protested on the floor of the House by displaying the hoardings against the state government’s act of calling for a curtailed session of the Legislative Assembly.

The four-day-long Session of Goa Legislative Assembly began on Monday with Governor B S Koshyari addressing the House.

After the Governor’s Address, before the National Anthem was played, the Opposition Benches, without making any noise, got up maintaining silence and displayed the Black Hoardings.

Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat said that there is demand to hold a lengthier session of the Assembly.

“We met only for five days last year. And this time, the session has been called only for four days,” he said adding that there are lot of issues that needs to be raised on the floor of the House.

Goa Forward Party leader and MLA Vijai Sardesai and NCP MLA Churchill Alemao said that it is condemnable that the crucial issue like turning Goa into Coal Handling should have been discussed in the House.

Sardesai said that Governor’s Address has no mention about the apprehensions about the coal handling which is one of the most burning issue in the State.

Congress MLA and former CM Luizinho Faleiro said that he had written to Governor urging him to call for Special Assembly Session to discuss the issue about Coal.

MGP leader Sudin Dhavalikar said that he had submitted that the opposition during Business Advisory Committee had demanded that five Calling Attention motions should be taken up but only three of them are featuring on the record.

Earlier, the Governor was received at the Session by Speaker Rajesh Patnekar, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat.

After the Address, the Speaker mentioned Obituary References for several eminent personalities who passed away recently. The reference was also made to several persons who died to COVID-19 infection in Goa.

One minute silence was observed on the floor of the House to pay homage to all the departed souls, whose obituary references was made.

BJP MLA Glenn Ticlo moved a motion of Thanks to Governor’s Address on the floor of the House. The motion was seconded by BJP MLAs Dayanand Sopte.
