Assembly session curtailed to just one day due to COVID-19 outbreak

Panaji: The upcoming session of Goa Legislative Assembly would be curtailed to one day due to COVID-19 outbreak in the State from its earlier schedule of two weeks, a senior functionary said on Friday.

Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly Rajesh Patnekar chaired the meeting of all party leaders at Porvorim on Friday which resolved to curtail the session to only one day.

Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, who participated in the meeting, told PTI that it was unanimously decided to curtail the session to just one day to avoid any possibility of spread of COVID-19.

Governor Satya Pal Malik had summoned two week long session from July 27 onwards.

Kamat said that there are at least 1,500 people on duty during the session including policemen and legislature staff besides the MLAs who participate in the session.

“Speaker suggested that the session be curtailed to one day, which was accepted unanimously,” he said.

The Leader of Opposition said that the Business Advisory Committee would meet soon to decide about the agenda for the session.
