Panaji: The upcoming meeting of Western Zone Council to be chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah would be held in Panaji on August 22, Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant said.
Sawant told reporters that the home ministers from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Daman and Diu would be participating in the meeting scheduled to be held at Panaji on August 22.
The issue related to Home ministry in the centre and also respective states would be discussed during the meeting, he said. The previous meeting of the council was chaired by former Home Minister Rajnath Singh on April 26, 2018 at Gandhinagar.
Sawant, who is also the home minister for Goa, stated that the detailed schedule of Shah is awaited, though he is also expected to discuss crucial issue of iron ore mining resumption in the state.
The mining industry has come to a standstill since more than one year after Supreme Court quashed 88 leases. In the past, Shah had held meeting with Sawant to discuss about the resumption of mining industry in the State.
